On October 23rd, 2010 D.C. was given the SUGGESTED ARTIST SONGWRITER AWARD for his song "TODAY" from Song Of The Year at www.songoftheyear.com. It's a powerful song about the emotions of a step-father at his step-daughter's wedding. His music career began at the age of 8 and was touring professionally by the time he was 16 with various classic rock and country bands. D.C.’s second career was in radio broadcasting that began in his hometown of Claremont, NH at WTSV. Eventually he landed a job in Dickson, Tennessee (on the outskirts of Nashville) at WDKN and WCLB (now WKLB) in Boston. Some of the New England entertainers that opened doors for D.C. Hathaway include Carey Rush, Marie Norway, John Penny, Stan Jr. and Robin Right.
While in Music City, D.C. performed with his good friends Larry Johnson and Craig Martin, co-writers of Tim McGraw’s Grammy nominated song “Don’t Take The Girl” and Jess Leary, writer of “Mi Vida Loca” by Pam Tillis and “Where The Green Grass Grows” by Tim McGraw. He has shared the stage with country stars Blake Shelton, JoDee Messina, The Judds, Penny DeHaven, Lacy J. Dalton and many more as seen on the photo page.
The M.C.M.A.A. (Massachusetts Country Music Awards Association) has honored D.C. Hathaway for Bass Player, Male Vocalist and Best Duet honors that he shared with singing partner Chris Anders. He has performed in Las Vegas at the Tropicana Hotel and audiences everywhere experienced his amazing transformation as Kenny Rogers (see below).
D.C. Hathaway's singing and radio career tragically ended from an automobile accident in 1996. The trauma of the accident eventually led to his diagnosis of Spasmodic Dysphonia in 2005. Though his voice is gone he continues to pursue his career as a songwriter and instrumentalist (see video page).
While Country Music is D.C. Hathaway’s first love, he can dazzle you with a wide variety of original music genres that he has penned and performed through the years. He has had many local hits on radio stations in the cities he has lived including “Left Behind” by Kevin Genovese (a tribute to 9-11). D.C. has studied the recording arts with Grammy award winning producer Jay Henry who has produced recordings for Prince and Bel Biv Devoe. D.C. owns Seabean Studios West, a music lesson studio and former recording studio where he recorded smooth jazz and easy listening original instrumentals for a Third Rock Records CD entitled “Lillie Of The Valley” which was just released and available on this site. Some of these songs will soon be heard on PBS, ESPN and The Lifetime Movie Network. His music is published through his own publishing company “D.C. Hathaway Music”.
D.C. also volunteers on the praise and worship team at Eastlake Community Church in Chula Vista, CA where worship pastor Marcus Jones just released a brand new worship CD called "Following You" that D.C. had the pleasure of playing bass guitar on.
D.C. earned his Music Degree from Southwestern College and you can find him in the classroom as an instructor teaching “The Art Of Songwriting”, a curriculum he developed that has gained popularity wherever D.C. Hathaway teaches.
So no matter where you find D.C. Hathaway, on stage, in the studio or in the classroom, you’ll find his faith in the music leaving his mark on those who listen.
